7 Must Visit Tourist spots in Mindanao for your next trip!
With such a big variety of natural attractions ranging from picturesque beaches, great surf, mountains, and a blend of different indigenous cultures, it seems unbelievable that Mindanao once did not garner much attention in the tourism world.
A big reason why Mindanao hasn’t won over the mainstream crowd is due to its dark history and conflict. Today however, the island is one of the most interesting regions to visit and tourist spots in Mindanao are starting to open up.
If you happen to be heading to Mindanao, here are 7 tourist spots you must visit:
1- Lake Sebu
Lake Sebu is commonly known as “Summer Capital of Southern Philippines” due to its crisp weather which remains cool as it is situated 1,000 meters from sea level. The temperature can drop in the evening and if you’re the type of person that appreciates fresh mountain air, you will be happy with the climate. Lake Sebu is rich with natural sites such as waterfalls, rivers and springs which have contributed in marking it as one of the country’s best adventure destinations. Come here for breathtaking sceneries and a peaceful escape.
2- Britania Islands in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur
This little group of islands feature some of the most pristine and gorgeous beaches you will ever see in the Philippines. Most of the islands remain untouched but boast the softest sand and are surrounded by turquoise waters. You will get the beauty of Boracay without the crowds.
3- Enchanted River in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
This river has been getting a lot of attention lately for its majestic colors which have surfaced in countless photographs spread throughout the internet. It was once called the Hinatuan river but has since adopted its new name for a variety of reasons. A fun thing to do is to ask the locals about myths regarding the river. If you want to see a wide palette of natural colours, you must visit the Enchanted River.
4- Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
This high waterfall which measures 55 meters high and 95 meters wide is one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the country. The plunging water is spread high and wide which work to create a sort of water theater curtain. There are different ways to get an intimate look at the waterfall such as walking a staircase which runs through the middle level of the waterfalls. There is another smaller waterfall near the entrance where you can swim.
5- Mount Apo
If you are going to enjoy nature, then why not kill two birds with one stone by climbing Mount Apo? This mountain measures almost 3000 meters high and is home to a bunch of unique animals such as the Philippine Eagle. At the peak you will enjoy a panoramic view of Davao City, Digos City and Kidapawan City. This is a challenging hike but the view from up top is a spectacular reward.
6- Camiguan Island
Camiguan isn’t very big but boy does it have a lot to offer. As a start there are numerous hot and cold spring resorts. Then there are the beautiful islets of White Island and Mantigue Island. The biggest highlight however is the eerie sunken cemetery which can be identified by the large white cross which sits in the ocean.
If you only have time to pick one then this should be it. It is a bit of a mission to get there as it is located in one of the most remote areas in the country but if you want to get off the hidden path and see some great beauty, then you have to come here. Highlights include climbing Bud Bongao and beach bumming on Saluag and Sama Dilaut islands.
