7 Fun and Family Friendly Things to Do in Boracay
What was once just a largely isolated place with a handful of rustic beach huts, today Boracay has grown to become a behemoth in Filipino tourism. With so many things to do in Boracay, one might wonder if this tropical paradise which is particularly known for its party scene also has activities to offer for those tracking with a family.
Despite the reputation it has garnered amongst solo travelers, party seekers and honeymooners, tourists planning a family trip will be happy to hear that Boracay does indeed offer a wide range of family friendly activities.
Here are 7 fun and family friendly things to do in Boracay:
1/ Kite Surfing
This one is for the early risers as kite surfing is best done as early as possible on the famous Bulabog beach. As this beach is well known amongst kite surfers, it does tend to pack out like a sardine can during the day so if you can get you and your kids out of bed and out on the beach around sunrise, you will have a good few hours all to yourselves. Many kitesurfing schools in the area offer equipment for children as well as wind surfing lessons for kids.
2/ Go to the Spider House
The Spider house is a beautiful rest stop that leads to a bamboo elevator that takes you into the ocean. Kids will love playing on the floating ocean station which can be accessed from the spider house as well. Just be warned that any child who jumps from the station into the ocean will want to do it several times.
3/ Hire a Paddleboard
Hiring a paddleboard around sunset and exploring the area around Willies Rock is a safe and fun way to work on your beach body and take your kids out for a spin. Depending on the ages of your children, you can have them sit on the board or let them try it out for themselves. The advantage of paddle boarding in Boracay is that the waters here are really calm which is perfect for kids and beginners.
4/ Take a family walk on White Beach
White beach is gorgeous but it can get crowded, particularly during peak season. An easy way to beat the crowds and spend some quality time with your family is to get there before sunrise for a casual morning stroll. You will have one of the most picturesque beaches in the world all to you and your family. After your stroll, you can reward your family with a fresh fruit juice at one of the beach fruit stands.
5/ Take up a water sport
There is nothing that excites children more than a rush of adrenaline and what better way to get your adrenaline juices going at the beach than hiring a jet ski or going banana boating. From White beach, you can grab a speedboat which takes you on a 10 minute ride out to the ocean platform where you can choose to participate in a number of water sports.
6/ Fancy Family Dinner at Shangri-La Boracay Resport & Spa
Grab a tricycle and head up to Pukka Beach. The journey up to the north side of the island is a thrill for kids and you can reward the family with an elegant dinner at the Shangri-La. As a bonus, if you reserve early, you can treat your kids with a golf buggy ride from the reception to one of the restaurants.
7/ Enjoy a Fire Dance
You can catch a fire dance performance every evening at the District and the Astoria. If you book ahead, you can grab a table right on the beach and enjoy your buffet dinner while enjoying a “stage side” fire show.
Boracay may have a bit of a reputation for being a party area or island that is more suitable for singles or couples but the reality is there is something for everyone at this Filipino paradise.
