6 Exciting Activities in Boracay for Travelers on a Budget
Despite being the hottest tourist attraction in the Philippines, with a little bit of effort you won’t have a hard time finding exciting activities in Boracay even if you are going there on a tight budget.
Beyond being just a pristine island, Boracay is packed with activities for every demographic whether you are rolling solo, spending time on a romantic getaway with a special someone or bringing along your entire family.
Unfortunately, the bank account does have its limits and not everybody is in Boracay to live the luxury lifestyle. Thankfully, not even a strict budget can stop you from having the time of your life on one of South East Asia’s most treasured islands.
Here are 6 exciting activities for you to consider if you are heading to Boracay with a limited budget:
1- Helmet Diving
Helmet diving involves you placing what looks like the type of helmets astronauts wear, and going underwater to get an intimate view of the stunning marine life in Boracay. The best time to do this is either in the morning or early afternoon when the sun is not too hot and you will get a clearer view as these times offer the best lighting. It is a fun activity and very affordable.
2- Go Island Hopping
The thought of getting a boat and going island hopping appears to be expensive and it can be if you don’t know what you are doing. One of the advantages you will have in Boracay is that there are literally dozens of eager boatmen around. While most of them will try to offer you the standard fare, a lot of them are willing to give you a reduced price if you negotiate.
3- Go to Mount Luho
A good way to escape the beach and get a great view of the area is to head up Mount Luho. There are many options to get there and each of them are cheap. You can hire a tricycle to take you up there for anywhere between PHP 100-180 or you can walk up there with your own two feet for free. There is a viewpoint which can be accessed for a minor fee but the view is well worth it.
4- Watch the Fire Dancing
One of the cheapest things you can do is catch the spectacle of the fire dancing. All around Boracay in the evening you will find dance groups performing fire dancers. It is cheap as there is technically no fee but they do ask for donations so anything you give will be appreciated. One of the more popular groups are the Boracay Phoenix Fire Dancers so keep your eyes out for them.
A good way to overcome your fears and enjoy a bit of freedom in the air is to go parasailing. It is pretty cheap to do it on Boracay and the best time to check this out would be around an hour before sunset. This will give you enough time to pay, sort out the schedule and wait for your turn. Be sure to bring your phone or camera as the photo ops up in the air are fantastic.
6- Enjoy the Sunset
There is nothing wrong with going to Boracay and lounging out on the beach just to watch the sunset. It is one of the most beautiful experiences you will have on the island and it is absolutely free for everyone. Grab an ice cold beer at one of the local stalls, find a nice piece of sandy real estate and sit back and relax. A nice sunset is a perfect highlight for a vacation in Boracay.
