5 reasons why you should go to Boracay for snorkeling
Thinking of taking a vacation out to the Philippines? Then the chances are your visit to the archipelago is going to involve exotic beaches, picture perfect sunsets, interacting with friendly locals and taking part in water sports. For those who prefer sticking to the surface of the water, they will be pleased to hear that snorkeling is one of the most popular activities and nothing beats going to Boracay for snorkeling.
Aside from being home to some of the most spectacular beaches in the country, the island of Boracay boasts some of the best snorkeling spots in all of the Philippines.
Here are 5 reasons why you should go to Boracay for snorkeling:
1- The Bulabog Beach
A good place to get your snorkeling adventure started is to pay a visit to Bulabog beach. This beach sits very close to the main beach (White Beach). It is a fantastic place to snorkel and see the abundance of colorful reefs and a huge range of coral life. Getting equipment will not be an issue as there are always boatmen around who lend rent out vests, snorkeling gear, and any other supplies you need. The best part is that finding a snorkeling spot will not be an issue as they are everywhere. Bring bread as the fishes love to be fed here and you will see them everywhere!
2- Crocodile Island
Crocodile island is hands down one of the more well known snorkeling spots in Boracay. It is a common stop on the boat tours and features a bunch of wonderful snorkeling spots. It is important to note that the name has nothing to do with any crocodiles in the water but rather the unique shape of the island which resembles a crocodile. What’s great is that the shallow reef-top makes it perfect for snorkelers. You can also expect to see a huge range of fish including moray eels, sea stars, hawkfish and sea cucumbers.
3- Tambisaan and Ilig Ilig Beaches
Both of these beaches offer great snorkeling but Ilig Ilig is probably the better of the two. Tambisaan is a much more attractive beach on its own for general beach bumming but Ilig Ilig offers a bigger variety of marine life for snorkelers although snorkeling equipment is accessible on both. A good plan is to head out to Ilig Ilig for the day as there are dozens of local eateries there where you can get a decent plate of local food before spending the afternoon snorkeling.
4- Blainghai Beach
This chilled resort which is situated just off Diniwid Beach is one of the snorkeling gems in Boracay and is commonly known as the best snorkel spot for locals. As a bonus, there is a gorgeous rock cliff where you can get a stunning view of the surrounding area. There is a beautiful coral garden offshore that boasts some of the biggest range of marine life you will see in Boracay. There are cottages and comfortable lounging areas for you to relax in after your snorkeling excursion and the beach her is much more relaxed than White beach.
5- Access to Snorkeling Equipment
Aside from the selection of snorkeling spots, a good reason to visit Boracay for snorkeling is the availability and affordability of snorkeling equipment. Unlike other places in the world, Boracay is convenient in that there are boatmen and stalls everywhere offering snorkeling equipment for rent. If you happen to organize a private boat tour, make sure you ask your boat driver if he has snorkeling equipment and see if you can get it included in the price.
